The Petruzzelli Theater is Bari’s largest theater and the fourth largest in Italy, located in the center of Puglia’s capital city. The theater is owned by the Messeni Nemagna family.

The history of Bari’s Petruzzelli Theater began when Onofrio and Antonio Petruzzelli, merchants and shipowners from Bari, presented the Bari municipality with the theater design of engineer Angelo Cicciomessere (later Messeni), husband of their sister Maria. Their proposal was accepted, and on January 29, 1896, they signed the contract between the family and the municipal administration.
